Coordinated Motion in Catfish robotic steel fabrication

Coordinated Motion

The Robot Moves to the Work

Rails, lifts, positioners and gantries extend the W7's reach under one motion controller.

THE PROBLEM

Large Parts Do Not Fit a Fixed Robot

A fixed robot reaches a fixed envelope. Long beams, panels and blocks outgrow it, so crews crane parts between welds or weld by hand. Every reposition adds handling time and risk, and can change the workpiece reference condition, another chance to lose the datum.

APPROACH

How Catfish Approaches It

Add external axes around the W7 and coordinate them as one machine.

Linear Travel

A rail carries the robot along long seams.

Vertical Lift

Column motion sets the working height.

Positioners

Turn the part to present the joint.

Coordinated Interpolation

Control X keeps torch speed and angle across all axes.

HOW IT WORKS

Robot Axes Plus External Axes

W7 always has seven axes. The system axis count comes from the external motion around it.
